What is Adolescent/Teen Counselling?
Adolescents may experience trauma that parents may not be aware of. Adolescent counseling is specialized counseling which focuses on the growing difficulties and pressures adolescents experience during the change from child/pre-teen to adolescent/adult.
A significant part of becoming an adolescent or adult is to push boundaries and to challenge parental figures. It is imperative that an adolescent learns the appropriate communication skills to voice what they need, and when pushing a boundary is no longer appropriate.
Therapy now provides the platform for adolescents to explore their feelings and viewpoints, which are often too difficult or shameful to discuss with peers or parental figures due to fear of judgment or rejection
Young people need a safe and confidential space to be heard and work out their issues. Having an online Therapist makes a trusted person accessible.
Parental Guidance can be of great assistance and support to parents.
Most often when family members approach teens for counselling, they think that their “words of wisdom” are all that is required to set the teen in the right direction again. In some cases, they may be right but in others, it could not be further from the truth. Teens are at an incredibly venerable stage of their development and it is complex as they are tackling many hormonal and internal conflicts of their individuality. More than to impart “wisdom” a therapists role is to listen and reflect as we would an adult and simply offer the guidance that allows them to make their own decisions.
Adolescents establish social or interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence as they develop. Children may have emotions or behaviours that interfere or entirely disrupt their wellbeing.
Adolescents may also have experienced trauma that parents may not be aware of. This may take many forms and your Therapist will be able to assist. Bullying, abuse, exposure, emotional unreadiness etc may all be factors to consider.
Parental Guidance can assist parents in getting perspective around what is age appropriate and what is a concern that requires intervention.

I have a messy room. Deal with it.
I spend most of my life online.
I have private things on my phone.
I go to bed late.
Don’t get tired of me.
My music says more about me than my own mouth.
I feel everything. Strongly.
My friends and what they think is EVERYTHING.
Start Worrying About Me When
I stop showering or and my personal hygiene completely disappears. My room will still be a mess.
I stop talking completely and never come out of my room.
I’m awake all night and I sleep all day.
I make plans to end my life. Not just hints. Plans.
I’m worried and anxious about everything.
I have aggressive outbursts. Not normal irritation.
